itinerary
DAY 1 - Arusha to Tarangire National Park
In the morning, your personal safari guide will pick you up from your accommodation in Arusha. The journey takes you along a smooth tarmac road, across the gently rolling Maasai plains dotted with acacia trees. Along the way, you’ll pass many Maasai people in their vibrant attire, walking by the roadside, riding bicycles, herding cattle, and driving donkey carts.
Tarangire is renowned for its large herds of elephants. From the open roof of the vehicle, you’ll have the chance to take in the seasonal swamps, savanna, and the Tarangire River. As you embark on a game drive, you’ll search for a variety of animals, including zebra, wildebeest, buffalo, elephants, and giraffes. If you’re lucky, you may spot lions stalking prey or leopards relaxing in the trees above. After a thrilling day of wildlife encounters, you’ll leave the park and head to a nearby campsite. Set in a beautiful location, with troops of monkeys playing in the trees, you’ll enjoy a delicious dinner and an overnight stay under the stars.
DAY 2 - Tarangire National Park to Serengeti National Park
After breakfast, you’ll continue your journey towards the fertile highlands, where the Iraqw people grow wheat, coffee, and corn. As you pass through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, you’ll witness the breathtaking Ngorongoro Craterβan awe-inspiring caldera formed millions of years ago by a volcanic explosion. Take in the stunning panoramic views of this natural wonder before heading onwards to the Serengeti National Park.
By midday, you’ll arrive in the Serengeti, which means “Endless Plain” in the Maasai language. The Serengeti is Tanzania’s largest national park, offering a diverse range of landscapes, including vast grassy plains, swamps, lakes, savannah, and mountains. This is also the site of the world-famous wildebeest and zebra migration, and depending on the time of year, you may have the opportunity to witness thousands of animals on their quest for food and water.
After an extensive game drive, you’ll head to your campsite for a delicious dinner and an overnight stay under the African stars.
DAY 3 - ANOTHER FULL DAY SAFARI TO SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK
The entire day is dedicated to more exciting game drives in the Serengeti National Park, one of the most iconic wildlife destinations in the world. The Serengeti is home to a vast array of wildlife, including impalas, buffalo, crocodiles, and hippos, but itβs especially famous for its migrating herds of zebras and wildebeest. The migration is guided by the rainfall, varying each year. In November and December, the herds move from the northern woodlands and hills to the southern grassy plains, while from April to June, they return north during the longer rainy season.
Aside from witnessing the majestic migration, you may also have the chance to spot predators such as leopards, cheetahs, and lions, which are always on the lookout for an opportunity to hunt.
After an unforgettable day of exploring the Serengeti, you’ll return to your campsite for a delicious dinner and an overnight stay under the African sky.
DAY 4 - Serengeti National Park
After an early breakfast, you will head out for another exciting game drive in the Serengeti. This might be your opportunity to spot the “Big Five” β lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, and leopard β as they roam freely across the vast plains. With no fences to restrict their movement, you’ll experience true, uninterrupted wildlife viewing.
As the day progresses, youβll embark on your journey towards the Ngorongoro Crater. Upon arrival at the craterβs edge, you’ll be treated to your first breathtaking view of the lush streams, expansive grasslands, and abundant wildlife that await you the next day.
Your day will end at a campsite perched right on the craterβs rim. As the sun sets, casting a warm orange glow across the landscape, youβll drift off to sleep, surrounded by the beauty and tranquility of this unique setting.
DAY 5 - Ngorongoro Crater
Early risers are rewarded with breathtaking views of the rising sun over the craterβs edge. After a hearty breakfast, you’ll embark on an adventurous descent down the track into the Ngorongoro Crater. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is often regarded as one of the seven wonders of Africa, and for good reason. Formed millions of years ago by a massive volcanic explosion, the crater is 610 meters deep and spans roughly 260 square kilometers.
With a dense population of around 25,000 animals, it offers the best game viewing in all of Tanzania. In just moments, you’ll witness herds of wildebeest, zebras, gazelles, and elephants, along with over 500 bird species that call the crater home. With a little luck, you may even catch a glimpse of the elusive and endangered black rhino grazing amidst the tall grasses. Itβs a truly remarkable experience, immersing you in one of the most incredible ecosystems on Earth.
DAY 6 - Lake Manyara National Park
After breakfast, you’ll embark on your journey to the final destination of this epic safari, Lake Manyara National Park. Located 120 km west of Arusha, this relatively small yet diverse park is named after the shallow, saltwater lake that dominates its landscape. The lake floods and dries with the seasons, providing a vibrant habitat for thousands of flamingos and over 500 other bird species.
As you explore the park, you’ll encounter a variety of wildlife, including monkeys, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, buffalo, and elephants. With some luck, you may even spot lions lounging in the trees. Lake Manyara is renowned for its diverse landscapes, featuring everything from open grassy plains to woodlands filled with primates and baobab-dotted cliffs.
After an unforgettable day of game drives through this unique park, you’ll head back to Arusha, bringing your safari adventure to a memorable close.
